Active Desktop Calendar + Google Calendar = 1337
If you use Google Calendar like me and want to have it visible on your desktop then you’re not alone.
I have searched far and wide for an application that would display my Google Calendar on my Windows desktop. I had hoped that Google would wake up and realise that many people want to view their Google Calendar from the comfort of their desktops without having to always open up their Internet browser (get Firefox) and load Google Calendar.
Well a few months ago I had found the solution to all our problems. The program is called Active Desktop Calendar (ADC). Truthfully this is one of the biggest desktop calendar programs available on the market today, but what makes ADC even better is the fact that they have Google Calendar support.
Integration with Google calendar
This new feature allows the program to read appointments directly from your private and other public Google calendars and show them on the desktop together with information from other data layers you have. Google calendar data are refreshed on 60 minutes cycles. To connect to some Google calendar go to Layers dialog and under Google layer section click Add new layer, enter some name and full iCal address for that calendar. Please note that in order to connect to your Google Calendar data, Active Desktop Calendar have to access your Internet connection.
Adding your Google Calendar to ADC is quite simple. All you have to do is following these steps outlined on ADC’s website.
Once you have added all your Google Calendar layers to ADC your Google Calendar information will appear on your desktop as shown in picture above.
If you love using Google Calendar but want the flexibility of having a desktop calendar then you can’t go past ADC.
Thanks,
Marat

Hello Marat,
Good post and thanks for the visit.
You can get the AddThis bookmark from http://addthis.com/
Just go there, create an account, log in, click on get the code for your widget, select which widget you want, then Where? select on a Blog, then under Blogging Platform select WordPress then click on Get Your Free Button and copy the code from the first box ‘Blog Button’
They do have an alternative method with CSS, but it doesn’t always place it where you want it which is why I copy&paste for each post.
I have saved the code in Notepad on my desktop and when I write a post in WordPress at the end of the post, switch to code and copy and paste the script previously saved.
Hope this is of some help to you, any problems get back to me.

Thanks cotojo.
I use to use Blogger and there you could edit the XHTML code to make it add the button to the end of every post.
I just didn’t think you would just copy and paste the code at the end of every post
Thanks for your help mate, that answers my question. BTW I think I’m going to copy your contact me page

You’re welcome Marat, and Contact Me pages are quite useful as it opens it up for rearders that have a specific question or want more detail without going into too much detail in a comment.
Look forward to seeing it

Hmmm that sounds pretty weird Sagar. I’ve looked at ADC’s options and only see one place where you can select your font.
You can try and contact ADC via their online support form.
Maybe try changing it to another font and see if it happens again. It might be the fact that Chiller doesn’t have the strikeout option associated with it, that’s why it defaults to Arial. Or maybe even the program has a small bug with Chiller.
Either way, try changing the font, and also contact ADC and see what they say.

Hi,
Integration with Google Calendar is a big thumbs up for this app. However, I am unable to delete any events from within the app… Can we delete the events from inside the application without going to the Google Calendar website?
Thanks,
John

John: ADC would only connect to Google Calendar now and again to update the layers on your local machine to match those on Google Calendar.
There is no synchronization done between itself and Google Calendar that I’m aware of, so even if you could delete your event from ADC, once the next connection with Google Calendar occurs your event would reappear again.

Oh.. Thank you for your reply… I just wish there had been some program that would sync both… You have any idea of such a program?

Hmmm not that I know of. I don’t know too many other programs like are like ADC let alone synch your local and Google calendars together.
I guess you’re just stuck with always updating your Google Calendar… for now at least.

Gary: What do you mean you want to take Google Calendar off your desktop? Do you have the Google Sidebar? or do you use ADC and you want something taken off?
Take a screenshot of your desktop and show me what you want removed from your desktop.
