Google Calendar teams up with CAT (Calendar for TV)

with 15 comments

If you read my blog regurly you would know that I love both Google Calendar and CAT (Calendar for TV). And two days ago I found a way to join them together to make one super dooper mega cool all in one ultimate calendar (like that name? :) ).

Well the truth is, I’ve always used my Google Calendar for personal use, work & uni but had to rely on CAT and their website for all my TV show schedules. But now you can, at home, by yourself, using only the tools in your shed (shed needed) make them work together :P

And to tell you the truth it’s quite simple.

  1. Log into your CAT (or create a new account and select the shows you wish to monitor)
  2. Right click “Download iCal File” and click Copy Link LocationDownload iCal File Link
  3. Proceed to Google Calendar
  4. On the left hand side click the small arrow near add and select “Add by URL”
    Add by URL Link
  5. Paste the Link Location your obtained from CAT into the text box

That’s about it. Google Calendar will add a new TV Shows calendar to Google Calendar as seen below. Please note though, the iCal file only has information for shows for two weeks from the current date. This means CAT might have shows listed in November, but Google Calendar will only have shows listed for October, don’t worry, the calendar will update itself everyday so that you’ll always be up to date.

Google Calendar with CAT

Plus now that you have CAT integrated with your Google Calendar, you can set SMS notifications for all the TV shows and never miss another show again. And you can also integrate your new TV Shows calendar with ADC (Active Desktop Calendar + Google Calendar = 1337) so that you can have all your shows on your desktop too.

Thanks,

Marat

    • Michael I know what you mean.

I’ve also had this problem. But I’m not sure who to blame. Google or CAT. Right now, my shows are coming up with the correct time zones. But I have experienced what you’re talking about before.

Sorry for not being of more help.

  5. Michael, did it fix itself for you? My CAT is set to EST, but the iCal on Google Calendar is still on GMT.

  6. It looks like the “Download iCal File” link is gone. Am I doing something wrong?

    • Wes you must be logged in to get that link. Register with them the login and you should see it.

  7. I’m also experiencing trouble with the timezones. I tried forcing it manually with no luck. How long did it take to fix itself because this is pretty annoying.

    • I’m not too sure how long. I think either Google or CAT has changes something in their scripts which has caused this.

What I’d recommend is setting both calendars to your time zone, then re-import CAT’s iCal file into Google Calendar.

If that still doesn’t work, try contacting CAT and see if others have had this issue and if they know a work around.

  8. I’ve changed both calendars to my time zone(GMT-5), but when I add the subscription it shows that calendars time zone as GMT.

  11. I appreciate the response… did it just eventually fix itself? i tried to manually change the time zone within google cal but it wouldnt let me… either way, even with the wrong times, this is one of the most useful adds to gcal ever

  12. Yeah eventually it fixed itself. I don’t know why or how, but for now it’s working fine.
