Letters from Iwo JimaDirected by Clint Eastwood (IMDB) and Produced by Steven Spielberg (IMDB) along with Clint Eastwood and Paul Haggis, Letters from Iwo Jima (Wikipedia) has to be one of the all time greatest movies I have ever seen.

The movie tells the Japanese side of the story during the battle on the island of Iwo Jima following a handful number of soldiers.

The island of Iwo Jima stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. Therefore the Imperial Japanese Army is desperate to prevent it from falling into American hands and providing a launching point for an invasion of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is given command of the forces on the island and sets out to prepare for the imminent attack. General Kuribayashi, however, does not favor the rigid traditional approach recommended by his subordinates, and resentment and resistance fester among his staff. In the lower echelons, a young soldier, Saigo, a poor baker in civilian life, strives with his friends to survive the harsh regime of the Japanese army itself, all the while knowing that a fierce battle looms. When the American invasion begins, both Kuribayashi and Saigo find strength, honor, courage, and horrors beyond imagination. ~ IMDB

Letters from Iwo Jima is the completion of the Iwo Jima saga which also includes Flags of Our Fathers, another amazing movie from Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Although I found Flags of Our Fathers a very very good movie, I was really blown away by the characters and story line in Letters from Iwo Jima.

The film is almost entirely in Japanese but was made and co-produced between an American and Japanese production company. ~ Wikipedia

The movie portrays the similarities in each and every soldier from the basic Rifleman to the honourable General. We see and feel their emotions as they give their lives for their country.

Letters from Iwo Jima is a must watch movie that will leave you with a completely different perspective on the battle of Iwo Jima.
