POP Peeper: Check all your emails from the one program

Posted by: Marat on: June 19, 2008

Recently I had come accros the need to be able to check multiple email addresses for me emails. I had always used Gmail Notifier and that served me well, but now I had to monitor six email addresses and Gmail Notifier just wasn’t going to cut it.

It was recommended to my to try a freeware titled POP Peeper. After a quick installation, I had proceeded to add all my email addresses. The first thing that struck me was POP Peeper could use IMAP for my email addresses not just POP3.

For those of you unfamiliar with the two, POP3 downloads email from the server and stores them on your computer (this way you would have the email on the server and on the computer) for you as they come in, on the other hand IMAP will synchronise the server and your computer leaving you with no duplication of emails and the ability to sort, delete and search your server from your desktop email application (i.e. Outlook, Thunderbird or even Windows Live Mail).

All six email addresses of mine where Gmail ones so therefore I was able to utilise IMAP on each one. POP Peeper can be utilised to send and receive email addresses and even has an address book. For my purpose all I needed from POP Peeper was the ability to check all six email addresses for new emails.

When new emails arrive POP Peeper can notify you via Desktop Alert, a sound or if you want it to be descrete it can even flash Scroll Lock for you.

Running in your tray POP Peeper uses around 5MB of memory. POP Peeper is definetly an application I would recommend to anyone needing a small, lightweight, reliable and free email checker/notifier.

Thanks,

Marat
