Auto lock your computer on startup

with one comment

Click (TV series)

Image via Wikipedia

Since formatting my computer I was unable to find this tutorial because the forum that it was on was down for some reason. I have now found it again and wish to share this magical tutorial with you.

Note: It is only recommended you do this if you are the only user on the computer

  1. Click Start -> Goto ‘Run’ -> Type in ‘cmd’ or ‘command’ -> type in CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2

  2. Click your username -> Uncheck Users must enter a username and password to use this computer

  3. Right click the start button -> Click Explore -> In the left pane, goto Programs -> Startup

  4. Right click -> Goto New -> Goto Shortcut and type in %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation -> Give it a name of your choice

The great advantage to this script is that it allows you to turn your machine on, walk away from the computer knowing that it will load Windows, log you in but still have your account locked and awaiting your password. Normally as you know Windows will always wait at the Welcome screen, which means you’ll have to login and again wait for your account to load.

I myself run Windows XP so I am unable to test this on Vista. If someone out there has Vista and would like to test this, please do so and let me know the results.

Thanks,

Marat

Letters from Iwo Jima

without comments

Letters from Iwo JimaDirected by Clint Eastwood (IMDB) and Produced by Steven Spielberg (IMDB) along with Clint Eastwood and Paul Haggis, Letters from Iwo Jima (Wikipedia) has to be one of the all time greatest movies I have ever seen.

The movie tells the Japanese side of the story during the battle on the island of Iwo Jima following a handful number of soldiers.

The island of Iwo Jima stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. Therefore the Imperial Japanese Army is desperate to prevent it from falling into American hands and providing a launching point for an invasion of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is given command of the forces on the island and sets out to prepare for the imminent attack. General Kuribayashi, however, does not favor the rigid traditional approach recommended by his subordinates, and resentment and resistance fester among his staff. In the lower echelons, a young soldier, Saigo, a poor baker in civilian life, strives with his friends to survive the harsh regime of the Japanese army itself, all the while knowing that a fierce battle looms. When the American invasion begins, both Kuribayashi and Saigo find strength, honor, courage, and horrors beyond imagination. ~ IMDB

Economic Models Explained With Cows

with one comment

I received an email from a mate of mine today that is unbelievable funny. It explains most economic models with the help of cows, this makes it much easier for the general public to understand.

SOCIALISM
You have 2 cows.
You give one to your neighbour.

COMMUNISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and gives you some milk.

FASCISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and sells you some milk.

Ministry of Sound Mash Up Mix 2008

with one comment

On the 3rd of March Ministry of Sound (Wikipedia) a London nightclub officially released their brand new Mash Up Mix album mixed this time by The Cut Up Boys.Mash Up Mix 2008

Last year I was introduced to their 2007 mix by my mate Greg. I was amazed at how well all the great songs of the year were mashed together to make incredible music, I had been waiting for the new 2008 mix ever since that time and now and I can happily say it’s out and it’s better then ever.

The new Mash Up Mix 2008 is a joy to listen to, mixing not only the new songs of 2007/2008 but also the old classics like Take Me To The Sun, Jump Around, Smash My Bitch Up, In The Silence and heaps more. For all those who love dance, trance and house music I strongly recommend this album, it really is a beautiful compilation that wont disappoint.

Purchase it from MP3 Sparks – $6.76 USD

Thanks,

Marat

Ctrl+Alt+Del – A comic for the "geeks"

without comments

This may sound like I will be talking about the three most used keys on our keyboards today, but I’m not. Instead I’m referring to the gaming related webcomic title Ctrl+Alt+Del (Wikipedia).

Ctrl+Alt+Del was launched on October 23, 2002. The comic has become a huge success with millions of readers daily. I had personally started reading the comic around 2 years ago and wait for every issue.

The comic is updated every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, but it has usually slowed down to maybe two to three comics per week.

The comic was based on two characters Ethan MacManus and Lucas Davidowicz but as the comic went on, other characters had come into play as you would see from reading the comic.

The comics have improved dramatically in presentation as can be seen by the following two examples. The image on the top is the very first comic ever published while the image on the bottom is the very latest comic published sometime this week (not sure of exact date)

There are currently 994 issues (according to my Ctrl+Alt+Del collection) so for those who are wanting to start from the first comic, be warned you do have a bit to read.

Personally I think the comic is hilarious and appeals to so many of us “geeks” out there. The comic is written in a way that without having the love for computers, consoles or gaming many wouldn’t get the jokes in this comic.

I highly recommend this comic to anyone, well anyone who is computer literate that is :)

Thanks,

Marat

The rule of three

without comments

Hi all,

I just remembered this fantastic rule titled “the rule of three” which applies to all electronic technology i.e. computers, hardware, software etc

The rule works like this:

Speed Quality Price

You pick two, the two you pick you’ll win on, the one that remains you’ll lose on.

Example:

  1. ComputersWhen purchasing a computer you may want to have high a speed processor and high quality components, but you’ll be sacrificing the price by paying more for the better components.
  2. TVs or MonitorsAgain we may want to choose a low price and high quality components, but we’ll again lose on the speed by having a slow refresh rate.
  3. SoftwareWith software the rule still applies. Software that has a low price and high speed, will be low in quality, which may be in the form of a buggy program or the program not actually doing exactly what it was designed to do.

This is a great rule which is surprisingly useful. Next time you’re out buying technology think of the rule and see what you’re winning and losing on.

Thanks,

Marat
