POP Peeper: Check all your emails from the one program

without comments

Recently I had come accros the need to be able to check multiple email addresses for me emails. I had always used Gmail Notifier and that served me well, but now I had to monitor six email addresses and Gmail Notifier just wasn’t going to cut it.

It was recommended to my to try a freeware titled POP Peeper. After a quick installation, I had proceeded to add all my email addresses. The first thing that struck me was POP Peeper could use IMAP for my email addresses not just POP3.

For those of you unfamiliar with the two, POP3 downloads email from the server and stores them on your computer (this way you would have the email on the server and on the computer) for you as they come in, on the other hand IMAP will synchronise the server and your computer leaving you with no duplication of emails and the ability to sort, delete and search your server from your desktop email application (i.e. Outlook, Thunderbird or even Windows Live Mail).

Something weird is happening with the Internet

without comments

This is the second time this has happened to me and I don’t really know what it is. Powering on the computer this morning I noticed neither Gmail Notifier nor Snitter (my twitter application) could connect to the Internet. Actually they still can’t.

gmail.com doesn’t seem to want to load which would explain Gmail Notifier and twitter.com doesn’t either which would then explain Snitter. But the weird thing is, Facebook doesn’t load either, and WordPress took one minute to load my Dashboard and another minute to load this “write post” page. Yet at the same time Google Reader is up and running while Google Calendar is down.

Like I mentioned above this has happened to me before, whenever Gmail didn’t work so didn’t Facebook and other large social/popular websites.

I’m finding this very frustrating and annoying actually. Half the websites I would normally visit in the morning are all down for unknown reasons.

If somebody knows the reason(s) behind all this I would love to hear it. Now I just hope I can post this blog :)

Thanks,

Marat

Gmail is getting some work done

without comments

Since the unveiling of Gmail in 2004 we have seen a new trend in the way an email client should work, look and behave.Gmail Logo Google and Gmail have shown the rest of the world that having a successful product isn’t about how good it looks, but it’s mainly about how easy it is to use and what features are provided to give the user an experience like no other.

(Un)fortunately since that time Gmail hasn’t done much in terms of its own look. Gmail has a very simple interface, and for good reasons. One of the main ones is speed, with Gmail because there aren’t any pictures, there’s no pretty graphics or flash Gmail pages load instantly leaving you with a clean and simple interface to conduct your email associated tasks.

But now… well not actually now, maybe in the near future I hope :) it is rumoured that Gmail will be releasing a new look.
